SUMMARY:Sandon Local History Meeting - VH at 4:30 to 6:30
DESCRIPTION:Sandon Local History & Times Past \nAlthough the next meeting will be only the third such gathering of those interested in aspects of Sandon’s history\, it is hoped that even more will come along to hear about what progress is being made\, what is hoped to be achieved and\, any other aims that may arise from our discussions. It’s free\, so do come along and if you have memories and/or photos of your house bring those with you to help complete the picture. \nA study is being undertaken of all the many Public and Ale Houses of Sandon that quenched the people’s thirsty habits and will prove most interesting when complete in terms of knowing the places you might have been able to enjoy an evening at … had they still existed. Also we’ll learn about the progress on updating the Sandon 2000 ‘A Book for the Millennium’. What was said about your house some 17 years ago? \nIntriguing information has been offered by a number of local folk and these lines will be followed up on\, but in the meantime\, where would you to in Sandon for a nice cup of tea or may be recommend a place to a friend seeking Bed & Breakfast? \n \nThis picture is of the railway carriage (possibly called ‘Roydon’ where (as can be seen)\, both teasingly tasty teas might be enjoyed and/or one could stay for a comfortable B&B. But who were the people running this establishment\, when was it and whereabouts was it in the village? Find the answers at the next meeting when refreshment will be served. \nSaturday 9th April from 4:30 – 6:30 in the Village Hall\nContacts: Janice Darton 287 777 or Chris Hoefkens 287 709

SUMMARY:Family Film Night is Free- “PADDINGTON” - Bar opens @ 6:30; Film starts @ 7pm
DESCRIPTION:FILM NIGHT AT SANDON (15th April) \n \nOur film for April is for all the family\, ‘Paddington’; this is not just one for the youngsters but a great movie for adults too. Don’t believe it? Come along and be surprised. \nAbandoning darkest Peru after an earthquake\, our diminutive hero arrives in London where he proceeds to wreak healing havoc in the home of the Browns\, the uptight dad (Hugh Bonneville)\, vivacious mum (Sally Hawkins)\, and the troubled kids. Nicole Kidman’s plays a trigger-happy taxidermist and (Peter Capaldi /Dr. Who)\, a creepy neighbour. It’s terrifically good-hearted fare\, painting a colourful portrait of London as a multicultural melting pot with a just a hint of old school Mary Poppins charm. \nThe jokes are good too\, ranging from laugh-out-loud observations about the transformative effects of parenthood (and knowing mentions of “exotic wrestlers”) to slapstick bathroom episodes. Ben Whishaw turns out to be the perfect voice of Paddington (Colin Firth failed the audition)\, his lilting diction at once childlike and wise\, his delivery naive yet oddly noble. “Please look after this bear”\, says the tag around Paddington’s neck. Rest assured\, they have. \nPaddington will be showing ‘imself on Friday 15th April and a little earlier than usual starting at 7:00pm. Doors open at 6:30\, entrance is free but not the Pay Bar. Children are expected to attend and they should bring with them their favourite toy bears\, while ‘grups’ and ‘gramps’ (aka parents & grandparents) should come along and they’re allowed to bring their favourite ‘cuddlies’ too\, although back row seats are not guaranteed! Booking not necessary. \nJust turn up no later than 7:00.
